Point to Point, Upcott Cross, Halwill
Every year we run one horse racing event, known as a Point to Point over a course in West Devon. We extend our thanks to the Heard family who allow us to use their land and play an integral part in setting up the course. In years gone by these events were put on by the Committee to entertain farmers and landowners over whos land we ride. Then, farmers raced their hunters. As time has moved on, these events have become major ways of entertaining not just the local landowners but over 3000 visitors a year. Customers range from the local public, business people, race followers and holiday makers staying in the South West. Today top class race horses qualify to run at top class events like ours. Oh how times have changed.
The STH has a history of producing top class racing using its team of successful business people and experienced race organisers. Every year our customer base grows with horses travelling from all over the south of England and Wales to race top class horses under Jockey Club rules.
Our event pulls together over 3000 visitors on the day, produces 1500 race booklets that many retain for many weeks and photo / video coverage seen extensively over the internet and on DVDs. The Race Course
The race track is meadow land and is arranged in a circular loop with jumps. Cars and spectators are positioned in the centre of the course to give everyone the best viewing and a real sense of fun and excitement.
Our Clerk of the Course, David Willis, will monitor the going every hour as we approach race day. The course will be irrigated with water to ensure everything is perfect for the horses. Our jumps are packed with birch cut locally; David ensures these jumps are presented to the highest standard anywhere in the country. Take a look for yourself before racing starts on the day. There will be a bar, book makers, food, a terrific paddock and many other stands for all the family. We use Luxury Looes to ensure your day is enjoyable. The South Tetcott Hunt takes public Health and Safety and the welfare of horses very seriously. Please follow all precautionary signs and report anything you notice to Stewards when you see them.
All Officials are located in the main Pavilion. Please come and meet us if you need more detail on the day.
